Dr Stone Theory- Why is everyone stone?
SPOILERS for chapter 103.
Btw, im talking about how petrification can actually occur, rather than the circumstances leading up to some mad man doing this (or woman), however i dont mind hearing any theories on that.
For me atleast, its quite hard coming up with a theory behind instantly turning people into stone in a story which is grounded in science for obvious reasons, however here is what we do know, and maybe we can formulate something.
A "Beam" or "Source" of light is shined, which, regardless of if they are looking or not, can instantly petrify any animal.
In this petrified state, they are still alive/conscious, and dont need to eat or drink.
Even people behind walls or not exposed to the light are petrified.
Prior to the day everyone got petrified, there were some birds already petrified.
Despite this petrification being able to pass through objects and having enough range/power to engulf the world, it didnt petrify the crew on the space satellite.
Speaking of that day everyone got petrified, the light was seen in Japan despite being originated from the opposite side of the world (i believe someone on this subreddit said South America but idk).
The only known cure to this is Nitric acid (HNO3).
Once cured, they are healed of any injury or illness they had prior.
Facts specifically seen from Chapter 103:
A large machine is not needed to petrify people in a specific range or area. However we dont know if this "beam" petrified people through walls, or if this petrification has a "time span".
The process doesn't create sound (hesitant to put this here, however i feel like Kohkau and Senku would have heard something if it was loud enough, but perhaps when the world got petrified there was sound).

Some of my opinions which arent exactly fact (yet kukuku):
Despite it being called petrification, the process of turning organic matter to stone, we dont actually know if it is stone specifically (heres hoping till Senku puts it under a microscope or does tests or something).
Well, we do know it wasnt NASA's fault for all this! (why would they send people to space knowing they were gonna petrify everyone lol).
Does the light actually pass through objects, or only its petrifying effects?
The light itself (photons whatever) isnt what causes the petrification. If this was the case, the crew from the satellite would have bite za dusto aswell, since they observed it. Also i dont think everyone got petrified at the exact same time. Could mean the light is merely a side effect rather than the intended effect?
Heres my theory, which doesnt explain everything but whatever :P :
Some guy created a pathogen (bacteria, virus idk) that had the capabilities of "petrifying" anything it had infected by it being exposed to some sort of wavelength, frequency, type or property of light (OK GUYS IDK PLEASE). It is also incredibly resilient and infectious (so it can be transmitted through air, water, contact etc).
This person (or some other person) releases this to the world, and it spreads until every animal and person if infected, perhaps they gave it a week, or a month.
Then they expose the entire world in this "light" anddddd the end :D
